Buffett’s Berkshire to buy Media General papers

(AP) ? Billionaire Warren Buffett’s company is making its largest foray into newspapers yet, agreeing to buy 63 papers from Media General Inc.

Richmond, Va.-based Media General says the $142 million deal includes the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Winston-Salem Journal. The company is selling all its papers except those in Tampa, Fla., most importantly the Tampa Tribune. Media General says it is in talks with others for those papers.

Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. has owned the Buffalo News of New York for decades and recently bought its hometown paper, the Omaha World-Herald.

Buffett has defended newspapers. He has said that even though they face competition from the Internet, they will have a decent future if they continue delivering information that can’t be found elsewhere and stop offering news free online.

Minuscule Microprojector Promises Bright, Touchable Displays Of The Future

Mini-Projektor für SmartphonesThese Fraunhofer microprojectors are still quite a ways off from being implemented into real phones, but the technology is certainly interesting. Based on an insect’s compound eye, the projector is a wafer of tiny LEDs that can twist and turn depending on position. This means there is no “keystoning” and the beams striking the surface will always be “crisp and clear.” ?Our projector consists of hundreds of tiny microprojectors in an array, each of which generates a complete image,” said Marcel Sieler, a researcher. “This technology, known as ‘array projection,’ is modeled on nature ? on the compound eye found in some insects ? and with it for the first time we can create very thin and bright LED projection systems with tremendous imaging properties.”

REDucation X, which kicks off on October 1st, will run you a cool $15,000 — approaching the cost of an entire Scarlet-X package. While getting REDucated at RED Studios in Hollywood, you’ll learn from high-end film pros alongside 20 other deep-pocketed students as you cover digital production from A to Z, including lighting, shooting and equipment brass tacks, followed by a one-week shoot, and finishing with editing, grading and big-screen delivery. Guiliana and Bill Rancic Moved to Tears By Baby

Giuliana and Bill Rancic have shared plenty of heartbreak with their fans over the years. Now they are doing the same with their long-awaited joy.

In tonight’s episode of Giuliana & Bill, the couple visit their gestational surrogate and attend the very first ultrasound for their soon-to-be-born child.

“It’s a little bit nerve-wracking because with IVF and with this type of a procedure, there’s always a chance that there was a false positive,” Bill said.

“We needed to see it to believe it.”

With their eyes glued to the monitor, the doctor explains that what they’re seeing is “the flickering of the cardiac activity of the heartbeat starting.”

“That is just about the earliest gestational age where we can ever detect this.”

Giuliana, 37, and her husband, 40, begin to tear up when they think about the long journey that preceded this happy moment they waited so long for.

Said an obviously choked-up Giuliana:

“Seeing that image on the screen is everything we had prayed for and wished for. We just couldn’t ask for anything more right now.”

“Looking at these first images, all these emotions from the past start rushing back. All the struggles, the shots, all the doctors visits, the tears … just everything.”

Is Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ Video An Homage To ‘NSYNC?

Addressing similarities to ‘NSYNC’s ‘Girlfriend’ clip, Bieber tells MTV News he’s ‘definitely’ been influenced by Justin Timberlake.

It’s easy to compare Justin Bieber‘s “Boyfriend” video, which premiered Thursday on MTV, to ‘NSYNC’s “Girlfriend” clip from a decade earlier.

The concepts are quite similar: Both videos depict laid-back parking-lot parties that go from sun-drenched afternoons to moonlit evenings, filled with fancy cars, pretty girls and hip-hop-influenced dance breaks.

Back in 2001, ‘NSYNC enlisted director Marc Klasfeld for their game-changing “Girlfriend” clip that helped launch them ahead in their career from tweeny idols to full-grown men. Now, as Bieber hopes to make the same leap into manhood, he said that despite having tons of respect for Justin Timberlake, he didn’t realize there were similarities between his Director X-directed video and the boy band’s clip.

After the “MTV First” premiere of “Boyfriend,” MTV News’ Sway Calloway asked Bieber whether he had seen the “Girlfriend” video: “I haven’t seen it,” he said. But, he admitted he’s “definitely” been influenced by Timberlake. “He was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music,” Bieber shared. “I can’t say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him.”

But, this Justin notes that while there might be some similarities to that other Justin, he’s hoping to put his own stamp on the music industry, adding, “I just feel like my music is going a completely different route, but … hats go off to him.”

As for the more grown-up version of Bieber fans are getting to glimpse in the clip, he shared that much like his Beliebers he’s growing up and not afraid to express that. “I think it’s super cool,” he said. “I wanted to do something a little bit more mature.”

Samsung Galaxy S III versus the iPhone!

iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S III

There's not a whole lot to say here, right? We all know the iPhone backward and forward. There's really no way not to (especially when you've got the likes of iMore.com in your stable). And after we don't know how many Samsung Galaxy S III posts, we're fairly familiar with it, too. One's metal and glass. The other is predominantly plastic. But it's a skinny bugger. Lanky, almost wiry.

Body styles notwithstanding, the major difference is in screen size. The iPhone still wins out in pixel density, but that's because it's still at a rather quaint 3.5 inches, whereas the Galaxy S III is a whopping 4.8 inches (crammed into a slightly smaller body).

So which would you choose? Made-for-human plastic? Or the cold, hard reality of aluminum and glass?

We've got hands-on video and pics after the break.
